The idea for the Ultimate Lens Hood began in Japan in 2014. Our founder Josh was at the top of a free observation tower at night, camera in hand, looking out across the city - except the only thing he could see through the glass was his own reflection.

There had to be a better way.

Fast forward to 2018. With a few successful Kickstarter projects completed, that idea had never quite left him. Development started on the first Ultimate Lens Hood and launched it on Kickstarter later that year. The rest, as they say, is history...

A year later, the ULH returned to Kickstarter with ULHmobile and ULHgo, expanding the idea beyond the original camera version. Both went on to sell around the world for years, helping photographers and travellers shoot through glass without the reflections that would otherwise ruin the shot.

In 2026, we went back to where it all began: Kickstarter.

The latest ULH collection takes everything we've learned from years of customer feedback and builds it into a new generation. ULHpro is smaller, lighter and hands-free thanks to inbuilt suction cups. The ULHmobile has been redesigned for today's smartphones, with or without a case. And the new ULHaction brings the same simple idea to action cameras for the first time.

More than a decade after that frustrating night in Japan, the idea is still exactly the same:

Put the camera against the glass. Keep the reflections out. Get the shot.
